You can buy a lot of paint and clay with $4,500, and you can excite a lot of children when you use these materials to promote literacy.
The Bay Education Foundation and the Bay County Art Teachers’ Association announced winners of the second annual Literacy through Visual Arts Classroom grants competition today. Nine teachers received $500 each to integrate literacy and visual arts in their classrooms.
Grant recipients include Margaret Walters Gamble and Cathy Irby (Bay Haven); Marsha Rockhill (St. Andrew); Jessica Hughson (Patronis); Carolyn Sickerman (Everitt); Mary Sheesley (Tommy Smith); Cindy Guerry (Patterson); Ashley Williams (Waller); Heidi Easley (Breakfast Point); and Michelle Creel (Oakland Terrace).
“We believe in arts education, “said Bay Education Foundation President Ronnie Adams, “and we partner with the community to raise money for these classroom grants.”
In conjunction with the annual Best of Bay Student Art Show, The Bay Education Foundation conducts a student art sale and an art auction to raise funds to reinvest in art education. Community sponsors of this program include Bay District Schools, the Visual Arts Center, Knology, Marcum Consulting, Steve Southerland, Marilyn Fenimore, Chuck Thiele, and P, B, S, & J.
